Dagelijks leven in Ijsland/My daily life in Iceland

If ever you thought life was different here, you were wrong. Really?? Well, you decide. Most of the comments to the pictures are written in English, some of them in Flemish, and a few words here and there in Icelandic. Just to throw you off.

Welcome to our home!

So the doors and windows have been put in Posted by Picasa

Before the isolation

This is after the foam-isolation had been put on the walls, the electricity was being put in, but not yet the isolation under the roof. Posted by Picasa

Toxic waste facility or what?

This is before we went to saw in the cement floor for EVER- and I was going to take an after picture, but I felt to bad and totally forgot. The outfit helped I must say, and especially the goggles and the earcovers were a must have. Posted by Picasa

Isolation

Isolation is going in, and wiring underneath and plastic under that (the wall is just the temporary wall between our dining room and the living room Posted by Picasa

Crazy

Can you see the lines on the cement floor...read all about it in the next picture Posted by Picasa

Weekend from hell

I know it can not be seen very well, but these grooves (about 3 cm wide and 4 cm deep) in the old cement floor have been sawed by Nonni and me, and we have done about 50 m of it which took us 12-13 hours of constant sawing, lots of sweat and some blood and a whole new array of words with which to describe what must be the most awful job in construction. The dust was incredible even though we had a powerful industrial size vacuum cleaner connected to the saw, which blew the dust outside! The worst part of it is though that we are not only half there (still about 50 +m to go!) . Our backs, ears, arms, knees and THUMBS - of holding the bloo... button of the saw in, have been hurting like hell since. Next weekend, it will all be done - we hope. After that - NEVER AGAIN - but one should never say never, now...and every time I will stand on the floor and feel the warmth, I will think - ahhh - how wonderful - at least, that is what Nonni says, but I am not really convinced - probably I will only think about the loonacy about this all. Posted by Picasa

what can I say

This picture is taken on nov.28th and shows the only radiator that will appear in our living room, the rest will be floorheated. The plastering on the wall is not finished yet, they have only done the first "basic" layer. This new part of our living room will have the heating put in tomorrow, the plumber will come and lay out the pipes for the water and then on Friday(after 3 days), they will come and pour cement over it so it will be even with the other part of our living room. Posted by Picasa

Our trip to Ventura Country Club, Orlando, Florida

Because everybody asked when we got back: this is how hurricane Wilma looked like from our patio, through the screen. In Iceland we would not even talk about this weather, but on the other side when Iceland experiences 2 days of sunshine and warm temperatures in a row, people are also talking about the heat-wave...so I guess it is just a matter of what you are used to. Posted by Picasa

Typical morning/evening scenario

Elin Andri and Jonatan all slept in one room, and their late evenings and early mornings were spent playing computer games Posted by Picasa

Take me out to the ball game,

Or should I say, when in the US, do as the USsers - (Americans). Jonatan and Elin took a go at baseball (the world series were going on), and were hitting quite a few out the park. Posted by Picasa

Disney World

The children (Nanna was with her parents in the part of the Magic Kingdom that cathers towards smaller children), Elin, Jonatan and Andri, with Stitch. Posted by Picasa

The magic palace

The pinnacle of the Magic Kingdom must be Cinderellas castle: Jonatan, Elin and Andri are enjoying every minute of their picture perfect day - probably because they did not know what they missed: the "it s a small world" ride - which Nonni considered to be a MUST - and I did not want to do it for fear of having the song fixated into my mind for the next 2 weeks. Well, we probably should have gone, because it has been recently renovated and was captivating - at least that was the story but Polly Anna would have said: well that just gives us a good reason for going back! (just when Nonni thought his Magic Kingdom days were over!) Posted by Picasa

Jungle Cruise

For everybody who has ever done the jungle cruise in the Magic Kingdom, this is a must ;) Posted by Picasa

What the ...is this?

I know, it is difficult to see, but this animal is called a Manatee and Blue Springs Park is famous, because these animals come there from November till March. They are quite large, seal like (but bigger) and their only threat is man. Jonatan wanted absolutely to put this picture on the site, so here it is. Posted by Picasa

Blue Spring State Park

There was a lot of wildlife in the park, we saw beautiful large butterflies, lots of birds of which I do not know the names, fish both small and large and quite a few manatees very up close. On this picture, we were admiring a turtle family, if you can spot them on the trunk of the tree. Posted by Picasa

Blue Spring State Park

We had three canoes, Hrefna Bjarni and Nanna on one, Jonatan Nonni and I on the second one and Elin and Andri on the third. They (Elin and Andri) tried really hard to work together, but paddling in the right direction was not always easy. We made it all the way back and forth before war had broken out between them! Cocoa Beach

Of course we went to the beach, and the kids liked it so much the parents opted for 2 days instead of one, which gave us a better return on our investment in plastic buckets and shovels. This picture is taken in front of the original Ron Jon s surf shop, open 24 hours (it is so important to be able to bend to those surfing cravings at 1 a.m.!) Posted by Picasa

Sand sand sand

Elin sat for there for about half an hour just enjoying the moment, which we found out was not a great idea, as it took us a great amount of time and effort to remove the sand...it was incredible! Posted by Picasa

Sand castles

I am not sure who to choose if I were asked who liked more to build the sand castles,Nonni or Jonatan. As you can see, we had to fight for space on the beach. Posted by Picasa

The atlantic ocean

The kids played a lot in the water! The second time we went to the beach, the waves were much higher and more powerful, but the water was pretty warm. Posted by Picasa

While we were in the U.S. , halloween took place and of course the kids did not want to miss this opportunity of an enormous amount of candy, so we got started with buying outfits and cutting out our own pumpkin. Posted by Picasa

Nanna Kristin would say/beg: put on the mask - lets get dressed up, but as soon as Jonatan would do so, she got scared... Posted by Picasa

Dont they look scary? Posted by Picasa

And this was the harvest (if you look in the mirror you can see 3 people taking pictures of this) And yes - Elin sprayed her hair black for the evening. From left to right: Elin, Jonatan, Hrefna, Nanna Kristin and Andri Posted by Picasa
